Nado Storm - Cape Town comic character crime fighter - I know the graphics specialists are looking at my comic drawing attempts going - needs this, needs that - lacking this, lacking that - Puh amatuer comic dude. Well when we dabble in each others disciplines it is never easy - However ive drawn one of these sketches up on an architectural cad programme - so Nado is being created through technical cad softwear and hence he looks a little different. The idea is that i want to extrude these images into buildings, creating a cartoon city scape. - Yes i know the architectural purists wont like this low tech dabbling and muddying the waters of the prime creative discipline. Well frankly my dear - i really dont give a damn.

Informal settlement branding - wildetecture style

The informal settlements along the N1 highway in cape town are in desperate need of many advancements however colour is just a small improvement. My proposal which keys into my 2007 Erxell concept will give direct payment to an informal home owner. 

Big corporates do a huge amount for communities that are finding life challenging - How can my little QJD design studio make a difference to families living under these deplorable conditions - Well one family at a time for starters - The need to improve living conditions in these communities is seriously overdue - The erxell concept proposal is to give residual income to a corrugated iron home owner whilst wrapping his home in paid for by the advertising machine signage. 

In the process getting advertising to pay for waterproofing the exposed to the extreme elements structures. By that i mean, wind, rain and fire. Attached is the first side wall branded informal settlement home - Nado Storm cape town comic hero branded informal settlement  home. - These informal settlement structures are temporary and simply introducing some colour to these structures whilst the occupants await there promised government RDP homes from the this current government, will add  an exciting touch to these drab destitute current built environment landscape structures. Dont get me wrong these communities need far more than just a splash of colour. At the moment they are absolutely nothing but landlords like ticks sucking the life out of a family trying to survive poverty. Dont expect the government to get involved in helping the little informal settlement families. They are weighted more on the tick side of this sad equation. Whilst families suffer under fire storms that rip through communities. Ive been there when someone just starts making a huge bonfire in a howling south easter wind. Its called informal settlrment for a reason, there is no formal structures to deal with characters behaving outside of what is socially acceptable. Infact its not uncommon for the community to take the law into their own hands and exact justice on those deemed to be behaving badly. Im sure the SA police will have stories to tell of community kangaroo courts. Im not making things up, its common knowledge. Sadly im sure many innocents are caught up in this immediate rough justice backlash approach of control. 

Whats needed is far more input than just simple colour to be honest. However i dont sadly see these built environment informal settlements getting the important attention they so immensely need right now. 

Perhaps small colour will help start paving the future informal settlement built environment way?

the birth of Nado Storm - Cape Town

The year is 1010ad, Tablebay is filled with the earths warrior tribes. Viking longboats, Phoenician trading vessels, Egyptian craft, Chinese and Japanese fighting ships. The 3 dominant local tribes, Khoikhoi , Strandlopers and San. Traveling dignitaries have come from far inland and far up the African coast, Zulu kings and Xhosa rulers. Toltec tribesman on their over sea travels, Hans and Souix elders . All shoulder to shoulder looking towards a common directive.

Representatives from each and every man child clan. To commemorate the unification treaty the tribes agreed to train a universal warrior. He would take on aspects of each and every clan represented. It was given to the San scribes the task to capture the imagery.

Nado Storm - Minder of the Cape winter storms and summer trade winds. Protector of the unification treaty. The tribes gave their nod of approval and it was so. The future passage of time looked prosperous for man. Each succeeding generation would train a personage in the same mould. One from the next, the next from the one.

As is true of all mans best endeavours - A greedy breakaway clan who wanted to control all. Who where not part of the main warrior collective for obvious reasons. Led by a Machiavellian warlord and the one they called the Adamastor managed to poison the minds of a few of the collective. They gre to banish yhe trained Nado Storms to the dark recesses of the Adamastors domain in the Kalkbay caves. plunging the earth into darkness and turmoil. They to where in training through the ages. One from the next, the next from the one. 

A Nado Storm - is now again awaiting the retraining birth to skills - much time has past since the last training. Much work to be done to get rid of the poison.

When once again all mankind's tribes will be gathered on Cape soil. 2010 is set to be more than just a sporting event - As the poison would have worked its way through and now a new day dawns for dark to light.

In a cave deep in the cape peninsula kalkbay mountains is an ancient rock painting depicting the character we now call the cape doctor or cape of storms. this rock painting is what forms the basis my new comic character, super hero Nado Storm.

Nado Storm is Cape Towns answer to the super heroes of american culture. He stands for what is honourable and crushes all that is currupt within our system. Nado storm the comic is under construction with the first collectors story confined to just 10 first edition copies. I plan to introduce Nado the new South African super hero in a comic strip in a local news paper. starting with the beginning of the concept. a group of cavers stumble on the cave painting and unleash the understanding of the ancient cape of storm character - South Africa is so desparately in need of a spiderman or superman which is essentially a South African and can fictiously clean up the over whelming criminal element.

the energy of the ancient culture that first depicted this character has now been absorbed into all preceding inhabitants of the cape. we are all linked to the ferocity of the storms by our life styles. disrespect the earth the cape and we all reap the whirlwind.

this character or ancient warrior controls the forces of nature that unleash themselves on our Cape Town coast during winter. a Thor type hero - not a god but a universal soldier. he wears the skins of his prey - the headdress of a caracal cat, the teeth of the great white shark. the clouds and storm elements he controls are the ancient cape buffalo herds, cape lion and cape elephant that roamed our coast line for centuries and revisit us to remind us of their existence. a swirling mass of animal storm clouds , a reminder that shows us we are not far off from becoming extinct ourselves.

the character is of no race and represents us all, he does not represent any 1 culture. he is an amalgamation of the rich tapestry of culture which is cape town. the ancient San and Hottentots used to wear the skins of their prey, I propose the character also wears a lorica segmantata - which keys him into a European influence. The cave painting deep in the kalkbay mountains needs to be revealed to the world. Nado is ready to do battle with the Gangsta element of our society. bring the rain.
