Luvo Matino one of my sustainable construction students has shown great promise as a wildetecture style designer. on Saturday we have a wildetecture meeting. the 3 established wildetecture designers from the academy of inventive design and technology and now these 2 wildetect designers from khayalitsha. i believe design should link culture and socio economic groups. i am very excited to see the design ideas spring from the minds of Luvo and Luthando once they have been exposed to the ideas of warren, dean and jacques. putting futuristic thinkers into the same space is bound to produce wonderful design ideas.
Most of my class cannot speak English, i cannot speak Xhosa. So i draw 3d pictures to communicate. My class draws back yo show they understand. They use all the colour in their kokis to express what they have learnt. There are some really talented sketch artists in my class. The incredible reality is they are unaware of their raw talent. This being the first time im aware of that they are drawing houses to this scale. Passion overides current knowledge. Exactly as it should do.
