Sights through the ether - QJD design studio - Umkhomba

Cape Town is a dynamic fusion of craft food , creative design, nature and radically diverse cultures - It really has an incredible energy. It is to my mind quiet possibly one of the best places to come up with creative conceptual design ideas. Why? Because to my mind the best human inspired creative concepts are passed through the all and the diverse. 

I was invited to look at a design for a 90 seat restaurant. Set in the cape mountains with spectacular views over a pristine Cape beach. - The first point of design departure with a site like this for me is the nature and the deep history of the site.

These roughed out sketches of the design are starting to take shape - A long way to go still - but slowly the design sight becomes clearer through the misty ether. Fynbos wild architectural flower inspired structural  dynamics.

The drama of the roof landscape and wild organic design is pure Wildetecture style. 

The architectural design purists will go on about grids, big box, small box architecture. They might even say this is all nothing new really. And they will be correct to their interpretation and understanding. Im just thankful we have other perspectives as well. If AI is going to supercede and copy us past our design creative glass ceiling height. Im going to be one to try obliterate that ceiling and focus on pure human creative outcomes enhanced by AI. Not AI outcomes watched by limited human creative minds!! Dont ever stop designing, being creative because a machine can create in one point two seconds what you perceive in days or years. A very powerful element on earth is human creative thought. Dont let any charlatan machine tell you otherwise. Dont drink the cool aid and simply get busy designing!!
